The consult fee is only the start of a vet bill. This calculator adds up a realistic total for a visit: the type of consult, plus any vaccination, tests or imaging, medication and microchipping, priced for a capital city or a regional clinic.
The breakdown bar shows how much of the bill is the consult and how much is everything else. Prices come from our vet consultation cost guide.

Common questions
How much is a vet consultation in Australia?
A standard consult is usually $80 to $110 in a capital city and a little less in regional areas. After-hours consults cost $180 to $350 or more.
Why is my vet bill so much higher than the consult fee?
The consult only covers the examination. Tests, imaging, injections and medication are all charged on top, and they often make up most of the bill.
Can I ask for an estimate before treatment?
Yes, and you should. Vets are used to being asked for an itemised estimate and which tests are essential today versus which can wait.
